Klangforum Wien is advertising vacant positions for flute and double bass.

The ensemble is amongst the world’s leading protagonists in all matters concerning new developments in music. Founded in 1985 as an ensemble of soloists by the composer and conductor Beat Furrer, the ensemble plays more than 60 performances, plus realizing a number of recordings and special projects each season.

Selection Procedure

Application – Video
Deadline: July 31, 2021

Please submit your application including an informative CV and a video (duration: approx. 15 minutes).

The video should be filmed in wide shot, with high quality light and sound; and it should be unedited.

Klangforum Wien will invite a maximum of 10 musicians per instrument to audition in Vienna.
The invitations for the audition will be made no later than August 31, 2021

Auditions in Vienna

January 17 and 18, 2022 (tbc)

Double bass
January 19 and 20, 2022 (tbc)

I. Round 1: Solo Audition

  • One solo-piece from the prescribed repertory list, plus one work of your choice (which may be the work from the video presentation).
    Total duration: approx. 15 minutes

II. Second Round: Chamber Music

  • To be performed in a rehearsal situation with Klangforum Wien
  • A selection of chamber music pieces will be sent in advance to all invited applicants.

The ensemble reserves the right not to invite all applicants to the chamber music round. Klangforum Wien will reimburse participants in the auditions their accommodation expenses in Vienna.

Performances with the Ensemble

Klangforum Wien will invite a maximum of three musicians per instrument to participate in concert projects, covering a period of 5 months. (Expected to finish no later than end of June 2022.)

Subsequently, the final decision regarding the vacancies will be decided.

Members of Klangforum Wien should have their main place of residence in or around Vienna.

For their participation in these ensemble activities, musicians will be paid regular guests’ fees.
