
Giampaolo Coral
Giampaolo Coral (1944–2011) was born in Trieste. He graduated with a diploma from the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice and went on to teach at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Tartini in Trieste. His debut in Germany took place in 1969 with his “Requiem for Jan Palach and others.”
In 1987, Giampaolo Coral became president of Chromas – Society for Contemporary Music Trieste. In the same year he founded and organized the International Festival for Contemporary Music “Trieste Prima”.
From 1990 to 1997 he was artistic director of the international composers’ competition “Premio Musicale Città di Trieste”. He was a member of the “Féderation Mondiale des Concours Internationaux de Musique” (Geneva). In 1995 he became artistic director of the music programme of the international festival “Trieste Contemporanea”.
Amongst the many prizes that were awarded Giampaolo Coral for his music was the Prix de Composition Musical Prince Pierre de Monaco and the Carl Maria von Weber Prize (Music Festival Dresden).
